Pleased to play and a pleasing performance
After a six week break for Christmas and bad weather everybody was keen to play or see a football match; it was worth the wait.
Hanwell travelled up the A40 with the maximum match day squad allowed for this return fixture; because it was Ickenham who were Hanwell’s last opponents and who nicked a draw at Elthorne in a game that HTYFC were always in the lead and gifted IYFC all their goals.
Hanwell started the stronger of the two table topping teams; with good passing combinations between players and strong tackling.
New signing Jack Poyntz playing in his debut made the first real impact, linking up well with the midfield and then being awarded a penalty on 10 minutes after being brought down running in on the keeper.
Jack stepped up to take the spot kick but blasted it straight at the IYFC keeper; luckily he was given the chance to take it again because the ref wasn’t ready; luckily for IYFC the second kick was sent over the bar ending Jack’s dream debut start.
Hanwell still dominated and it only took another 3 minutes for HTYFC to break the dead-lock; it was a moment of skill from Adam Bello who went on a solo run after winning the ball in midfield he then run in on goal beating three IYFC players before shooting pass the keeper.
Ickenham responded well to going behind and scored 2 goals in 3 minutes, the first a missed clearance from Tom Sloley and the second an unstoppable long range shot.
Hanwell Sub Che Regis was introduced in response to going behind and was effective within a minute, scoring after rounding the keeper when he was played through with a lovely pass by Jehovanie Djela.
A couple minutes later Che should have been awarded a penalty when he was rugby tackled in the area but because he managed to shot while on the floor the ref let play continue.
Hanwell’s domination of the game was rewarded when another solo run this time by newly introduced Rene Barnes scored after beating 4 players before slotting the ball in the net.
HT = 2-3. HTYFC players told to keep confident, keep the team shape, keep passing the ball, keep playing out from the back and remember game management.
It took until the middle of the 2nd half before HTYFC sealed the match, the players done what was asked and 3 goals in 5 minutes shocked everyone playing and watching; the first on 14 minutes was a great first time shot by Che after a fine pass from Rene, the second on 17 minutes was another solo run by fast feet Rene this time beating 5 players and the third killer goal on 19 minutes was a lovely well take shot from Jehovanie who found away pass the keeper from an impossible angle.
The HTYFC players then seem to lose concentration and shape which meant poor game management all resulting in a needless free-kick with 3 HTYFC players tackling 1 IYFC player near the touchline. The free-kick was put into the overcrowded HTYFC box and dealt with panic resulting in scrambled goal to end the match.
FT = 3-6. An entertaining game with some good football played by both sides; enjoyed by everyone watching including the IYFC coach plus a watching AEWFC coach and also Hanwell’s own u18 coach, all of whom commented on the good performance by the HTYFC team.
MOM = Hard to choose between Lewis Scully & Jehovanie Djela; both a credit to the team.
