After last week’s win against tough opposition Hanwell started the match confident and top of the league.
The first half saw Hanwell play some of their best football of the season; with good passing play, good communication and playing out from the back with such great success that the KDFC coaches shouted instructions to their players not to press and to let Hanwell play out.
All this resulted in HTYFC bossing the first half with attack after attack and having 16 efforts on goal but only yielding 2 goals, again like the first encounter of the season Hanwell found the Kensington keeper in fine form making 7 saves to keep the score down to 2-0. In reply KDFC only had 4 or 5 shots on the HTYFC goal.
It was Rene Barnes who scored the two goals taking his season total to 20 from 13 games, his first was a brilliant run beating 3 players after receiving a lovely pass from Che Regis playing in a new position for him at left midfield.
Rene’s second goal was beautiful; nice passing football between Jorge Bishop and Jack Poyntz ended with a perfect through ball to Rene who met the ball before the advancing keeper and Rene chipped it over his head and then everyone admired the ball as it dropped into the empty net.
HT = 2-0.
With Hanwell looking comfortable and to give players some good game time; 4 changes were made at half-time.
These changes along with Kensington making positional changes gave the visitors the edge and slowly saw them grow in confidence.
The HTYFC players were reminded about game management and held off KDFC well even creating 8 chances on the Kensington goal, 5 of which were on target, but again their goalie keeping them in the match.
His reward 25 minutes in was his team scoring on a counter attack all because the Hanwell midfield was pushing up to assist in scoring a third goal which left a gap for KDFC to attack at pace.
More bad game management deep into injury time resulted in the equaliser from a long range free-kick on 38 minutes.
It was an unnecessary foul to give away; two HTYFC players were tackling from behind in the defending 3rd with the KDFC player having his back to goal.
Five minutes of added time played and poor playing decisions meant Hanwell lost 2 points and the top spot in the league table.
A mad loss of concentration in the last 10 minutes now mean it’s out of Hanwell hands to win Div 2.
MOM = Rene Barnes – he was on fire and caused KDFC headaches all match.
